Farewell old friend – Windows XP end of support

Our Companies, I.T. Solutions, Industry News

It’s nearly time to say a fond farewell to Windows XP as this past April marked the twelve month countdown to the discontinuation of mainstream support for the venerable operating system. The actual end date is 8th April 2014.

What does this mean for you as a business and a Windows XP user? In brief you will need to upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8 before April 2014.

Windows XP still accounted for 40% of active Windows computer systems at the end of 2012. This is significant when you consider that Windows 7 is roughly three years old. Worse yet, Windows XP systems account for over 70% of malware infections a problem that will only worsen next April when automatic updates are stopped.

There is speculation that Microsoft will continue to make security updates available but this cannot be assumed, can you take the risk with your business data running on an un-patched operating system? Infinity IT Solutions is currently informing our clients that we will limited support for computers running Windows XP after April 2014. Now is the time to make the switch to newer operating systems.

Infinity IT Solutions highly recommends Windows 7 and Windows 8. We are both using and selling these operating systems and they have proven to be very reliable and secure. Windows 8 is easy to use once you get a bit of experience and our team are more than happy to show you around the new look Windows. Call 0844 7798779 or contact us to discuss your options.
